One of the first things I teach my students about search engine optimization (SEO) is that your links should be deep and wide. The way to create natural, organic, authoritative backlinks is to build a large number of shallow, one-way backlinks from relevant websites.
You do this by building many links from sources with similar content. Deep linking strategies are important for gaining higher search engine rankings and positioning yourself as an expert in your niche.
One strategy that can help you achieve natural, one-way backlinks is called Article Marketing. You write articles about your niche and distribute them throughout the web.
In other words, you distribute your content throughout the Internet by writing and distributing articles that are related to your topic.
By writing articles and submitting them to article directories, you will gain backlinks on a number of different high ranking sites.
However, you should understand that although Article Submission is one of the best ways to gain backlinks, it’s not the only one.
In fact, article directory owners monitor their websites very closely. They take no chances that you will submit content that is not relevant or that you won’t follow the article submission guidelines.
Therefore, when you write your articles, be sure to write with their in mind. Include keywords in your title and make sure that your article submission software includes “authority” status.
Another popular SEO tool that is used by many people to create natural, one-way backlinks is video marketing. Similar to article marketing, you write a quality video that is relevant to your site, then submit it to YouTube.
Be sure to include keywords in your title and tags, and don’t forget to include your website address at the bottom of your video.
Once your video is published, you will be able to receive traffic from the search engines as well as from social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace. This is another effective link building strategy you’re not using.
If you’re looking to obtain backlinks from quality, authority websites, you have to be willing to spend some time in their sites.
These sites are usually owned by large corporations or webmasters that have the resources to create a good quality backlink.
However, since you will not be doing any advertising on these sites, you won’t have any “traffic exchanges” to help your backlink building.
Instead, you should focus your efforts on internal linking within your website or blog. This is much more effective than having your website listed on a high traffic website or blog.
One of the things you must realize about link building strategies that aren’t using internal backlinks is that they will most likely be ineffective if your site is not visited regularly.
The search engines look at the number of times a link has been clicked versus the number of views that it received. This means if you post an article and don’t have anyone viewing it, that doesn’t count against you in the eyes of the search engines.
You will have to focus a lot of your time on getting backlinks from sites that actually use your content and are popular with your target audience. This is a very effective strategy when you understand how it works.
Another thing you must understand about link building strategies that are not using internal backlinks is that it can be extremely time-consuming.
The process usually takes several weeks before you’ll start seeing any results. This is due to the amount of time it takes for the backlinks to build and becoming active.
There’s also a chance you won’t get as many backlinks because the websites you linked to might decide to remove links that are inactive or have been banned by the search engines. If this happens, you’ll lose all the time and effort you put into building the backlinks.
Whether you’re using internal or external backlinks, using deep links is by far the most effective way to build backlinks quickly.
The more backlinks you have pointing to your site, the higher your page rankings will become, which will increase your chances of getting traffic and converting that traffic into sales.
